تعتمد الزّراعة في الواحات على المياه الجوفيّة. ويزرع الفلّاحون النّخيل أوّلًا، لأنّ ظلّه يحمي الأشجار الصّغيرة والخضار من حرارة الشّمس. وفي السّنوات الأخيرة انخفض مستوى المياه في كثيرٍ من الآبار، فترك بعض الشّباب الواحات وذهبوا للعمل في المدن.
