يقع مضيق هرمز بين عمان وإيران، ويصل الخليج العربيّ بخليج عمان والمحيط الهنديّ. ويبلغ عرضه في أضيق مكانٍ نحو ثلاثين كيلومترًا. ويمرّ منه نحو خمس النّفط الّذي يُسْتَهْلَكُ في العالم، ولذلك تُرَاقِبُهُ دولٌ كثيرةٌ.
